Volyn Takes Over: Basketball Club Staryi Lutsk Rebrands

According to Главком: The basketball club formerly known as Staryi Lutsk has announced it will now operate under the name BC Volyn. The news was first reported by Glavkom, citing the Basketball Federation of Ukraine. Club Vice President Dmytro Chaikovskyi stated that

“the chapter called Staryi Lutsk is closed. The club’s story continues. Today, it begins a new chapter called Volyn.”

Founded nine years ago, the team has become a cornerstone of the local community over the years.

International Competition

On the international stage, Ukraine’s national basketball team suffered defeats in the 2027 World Cup qualifiers. In the fourth round, the team lost to Spain 78:64, and in the third round, they fell 86:66. Oleksandr Kovliar was the standout performer in the match against Georgia, scoring 31 points along with 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Ukraine defeated Georgia 92:79, following a second-round victory over Denmark (88:71).

Chaikovskyi also emphasized that

“over these years, the club has become a vital part of my life. It was never just about basketball. It’s about the people, the community, responsibility, and daily work to ensure that the Volyn region has a strong basketball team.”

He noted that “together we have gone from the first steps to the Ukrainian Superleague,” highlighting the importance of courage in trying new things and moving forward.

As BC Volyn moves ahead, the Ukrainian national team is striving to improve its performance in the qualifying matches.
