Belgium and Ukraine Align Defense Goals Through 2026 and Plan to Expand Support in 2027

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: Ukraine’s Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara held discussions with Belgium’s Defense Minister Theo Francken, during which both sides outlined their defense priorities up to the end of 2026 and explored ways to increase support for Ukraine in 2027. The talks emphasized enhancing collaboration in drone technology and joint industrial initiatives.
In 2026 alone, Belgium has provided Ukraine with €1 billion in military aid, enabling Ukraine to effectively equip its Armed Forces on the battlefield. Minister Khmara highlighted this progress, stating:
“Ukraine is already converting this assistance into effective tools for its Armed Forces in combat.”
The conversation also covered plans to supply additional ammunition for F-16 fighter jets, particularly to counter rocket-propelled drones.
Military and Economic Cooperation
Belgium supports Ukraine by assisting in the repair and supply of spare parts for F-16 aircraft. On the economic front, Belgium has invested $6 million in the Rebuild Ukraine Fund to aid Ukrainian businesses. The Kyiv region has already received 55 pieces of energy equipment from Belgium. Furthermore, Belgium intends to purchase 15 Gepard anti-aircraft systems for Ukraine, which will strengthen the country’s defensive capabilities.
This partnership underscores the critical role of international support amid current military challenges. Investments in defense infrastructure and collaborative technology projects are vital to bolstering Ukraine’s battlefield resilience and ensuring its long-term stability.
