Drones Strike Simferopol Power Plant in Crimea
Strike on Simferopol and Diplomatic Moves
According to Главком: On June 12, drones targeted energy infrastructure in the temporarily occupied city of Simferopol, hitting the local thermal power plant and causing power outages reported by residents.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a deal to end the war with Iran is being finalized, claiming both sides have already reached an agreement. He stated that the official signing would take place on European soil. Trump also said that Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had approved the accord, under which Tehran has conceptually agreed to allow the U.S. to obtain nuclear materials and to abandon its pursuit of nuclear weapons. Trump further assured that the U.S. would immediately lift its blockade after the signing.
However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghai dismissed Trump's statements, calling reports of a final agreement speculative. He added that Iran has not yet made a final decision on any deal. Qatar and Pakistan are serving as active mediators in the negotiations.
U.S. Support for Ukraine and Market Impact
Separately, the U.S. Senate Committee approved $750 million in aid for Ukraine, signaling continued American backing for Kyiv amid the ongoing regional conflict. Trump's claims of a nearing Iran deal also affected global markets, driving oil prices down.
“I understand the answer is yes,” Trump said, expressing optimism about fulfilling the terms of the Iran agreement.
The attack on Simferopol underscores the persistence of military operations in Ukraine, highlighting the fragile security situation in the region. At the same time, diplomatic efforts surrounding a U.S.-Iran deal point to broader geopolitical shifts that could impact energy markets and international relations. U.S. support for Ukraine also remains a key element of the strategic partnership amid the current crisis.
The ongoing military actions in Ukraine, including the recent drone strike on the Simferopol power plant, occur against a backdrop of complex international negotiations. As tensions rise, Trump's warnings of potential strikes on Iran reflect the precarious nature of diplomatic efforts in the region and their implications for global security and energy markets.
