According to Главком: Romania's Coast Guard discovered a fragment of an unmanned aerial vehicle in the Black Sea on January 26, close to the port of Midia. Military personnel and divers have initiated an operation to examine the object, aiming to determine its nature and assess any potential risks. This discovery comes amid heightened regional tensions following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which has turned the Black Sea into a focal point of military activity.

Examination and Safety Protocols

Soldiers from the 39th Diving Center were dispatched to the scene to conduct the investigation. The divers are operating with support from the MAI 3065 maritime surveillance vessel of the Coast Guard. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists are also aboard the ship, tasked with checking the object for any hazardous explosive components.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense has publicly confirmed the incident. Officials noted that similar occurrences have been recorded in Romania before; a previous incident took place in Argeș County, where a recovered drone measured roughly two meters in width and was equipped with a parachute and an improvised device. In this latest event, the Coast Guard identified an object near the entrance to the Port of Midia, which is believed to be a fragment of a drone.

This incident underscores growing security concerns in the Black Sea region, particularly given the ongoing geopolitical tensions and the potential threats posed by unmanned aerial systems.
