War Endgame Predictions and Frontline Realities

According to ХВИЛЯ: Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, stated in a recent interview that there is a realistic chance the active phase of the war with Russia could conclude in 2025. He noted that while peace talks moved at a good pace in the spring of 2025, all sides have since reverted to escalation, shifting the situation on the battlefield. Budanov firmly ruled out any territorial compromises, declaring:

“Territorial compromises are fundamentally impossible. Absolutely no options exist.” - Kyrylo Budanov

Budanov highlighted that Russia is using the term 'Spirit of Anchorage' with a '3+2' formula, which includes Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, and the occupied parts of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions. In his view, 'the war with Ukraine will end in their collapse.' Regarding relations with Poland, he warned that tensions are expected to peak by July 11, the anniversary of the Volyn tragedy. According to him, Poland is preparing a series of 'immature escalation steps,' but he stressed that Russia remains far more powerful than Poland.

International Support and the Crimea Situation

Budanov linked U.S. support directly to tangible results on the battlefield, underscoring that military achievements are critical to securing international aid. Ukraine’s primary goal in Crimea is to cut off the southern logistics of the Russian 'Dnipro' group. The peninsula is currently experiencing fuel shortages and interruptions in electricity and water supplies.

At the same time, Budanov sees no immediate threat from Belarus, noting that Alexander Lukashenko has heeded Kyiv’s warnings. He emphasized:

“Ukraine will not accept ultimatums from anyone in this world.” - Kyrylo Budanov

Budanov stressed the importance of victory and global support, adding: “Everyone in the world loves winners. Losers are respected by no one.”

Budanov’s remarks highlight the complexity and multifaceted nature of the situation in Ukraine, where the war continues to reshape geopolitical relations in the region. Forecasts about the conflict’s timeline and possible compromises suggest that stability and security in Ukraine remain under threat, with international support being critically important for future actions.
