Negotiations between Ukraine and Russia are approaching a stage where the parties will have to make final decisions regarding the further development of events. This was stated by the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, during the Justice Conference. This is reported by 'RBK-Ukraine'.

According to Kyrylo Budanov, wars of this scale do not end on their own. There are two scenarios: either a fair decision or a return of the conflict in an even more dangerous form. Ukraine is focused on negotiations that not only aim to stop hostilities but also guarantee future security.

«It is no secret that the negotiations are not going smoothly. But we are definitely moving forward and approaching the moment when all parties will need to make final decisions: either continue this war or transition to peace. I hope that justice will prevail», – emphasized the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

He emphasized that peace without accountability for the aggressor would only mean a pause in the war. Such an approach, he said, creates a dangerous precedent for other authoritarian regimes.

Negotiation process between Kyiv and Moscow continues with the support of the USA

Budanov noted that Ukraine is gradually moving forward thanks to diplomatic efforts and the support of the United States and other partners.

• at the beginning of 2026, the dialogue intensified with the mediation of the USA
• rounds took place in the United Arab Emirates and Switzerland
• after the meeting in Geneva, the parties reached an understanding on military issues
• the political block, particularly the issue of control over non-occupied Donbas, remains without progress.

According to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, justice must be the foundation of any future resolution, as «peace without consequences for the aggressor – is an invitation for them to repeat».
