According to Федерація Легкої Атлетики: Track and field athlete Oleksandr Lysenko suffered a cardiac arrest following a competition and requires 372,000 hryvnias for his treatment. The Ukrainian Athletics Federation is appealing for financial support to assist the athlete during this difficult period.
The Achievements of Oleksandr Lysenko
Oleksandr Lysenko is a European champion, a two-time champion and silver medalist at the 2025 World Games. He is also a multiple medalist at world championships and a Ukrainian record holder in veteran athletics. On March 30, 2026, after finishing a race at the European Veteran Athletics Championships in Toruń, Poland, he experienced cardiac arrest.
Doctors diagnosed him with an anterior and lateral wall STEMI myocardial infarction, complicated by sudden cardiac arrest due to ventricular fibrillation. Oleksandr underwent an urgent operation, which included LAD angioplasty with the implantation of two DES stents. The Ukrainian Athletics Federation is calling on all concerned to provide financial assistance to Oleksandr Lysenko so he can receive the necessary medical care. Such incidents highlight the physical extremes veteran athletes can face, even after a decorated career.
This situation underscores the importance of supporting athletes when they face serious medical crises.
