Chernivtsi Targeted by Drone Assault for the Second Time This Year
Overnight Drone Attack Strikes Chernivtsi Region
According to Главком: For the second time in recent months, the Chernivtsi region came under attack by enemy drones overnight on January 25. An air raid alert lasting over an hour was declared, during which explosions were heard and air defense systems were activated. The unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) approached from multiple directions, with movement specifically recorded over the city of Chernivtsi and the Sadhora district. Authorities focused their attention on the areas of Zastavna, Kitsman, Chernivtsi, and surrounding communities.
Within the Storozhynets community, a residential house and a car were damaged by a drone strike. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported from this latest incident. Patrol officers, who were first on the scene, provided assistance and evacuated residents along with their pets. Police released footage from the initial moments after the impact, demonstrating their rapid response. The city of Chernivtsi, located in western Ukraine near the Romanian border, has faced repeated aerial threats despite its distance from the primary front lines.
Context of Previous Attacks on Chernivtsi
This latest strike is a grim reminder of previous attacks on the city. Notably, on July 12, 2025, a hostile strike on Chernivtsi resulted in five fatalities and left 14 others wounded, alongside significant damage to civilian infrastructure. Tragically, another victim of that earlier shelling succumbed to injuries in a hospital on August 10, 2025, highlighting the long-term human cost of such assaults.
The recent events underscore the persistent threat from hostile forces using drones to target civilian areas. The situation in the region remains tense, with local residents still bearing the trauma of past attacks. The fact that this latest incident resulted in no loss of life points to the effectiveness of emergency services and air defense operations. These repeated attacks emphasize the critical need to ensure the safety of the population and protect vital infrastructure in the region.
