Chernivtsi City Council named the daily number of fare evaders in public transport and their favorite routes

In Chernivtsi, an average of 45 to 50 passengers are found daily who do not pay for transportation in public transport. This data was provided by the Chernivtsi City Council in response to a journalist's information request. Over the last six months, there have been 8,444 cases of fare evasion in the city. This is reported by MA ACC.

The city council noted that controllers regularly record violations, and among the 'fare evaders' are those whom inspectors know 'by face'. Most often, fare evaders are found in trolleybuses.

Fare Evaders in Chernivtsi: Statistics and Popular Routes

According to the city council, the most violations are recorded on the following trolleybus routes:

• No. 3;

• No. 5.

These routes remain leaders in the number of passengers who ignore fare payment. On average, the figures have remained stable over the last few months.

Fare Evaders: Fines and Control in Transport

The fine for fare evasion in Chernivtsi is twenty times the full cost of a single ticket. The funds paid by violators are credited to the budget of the territorial community.

The city council also reported that in 2025, the court overturned administrative penalties in three cases. During the consideration of each situation, the controller-inspector acts within the current legislation and takes into account all objective circumstances, including cases when non-payment could have been unintentional.
