Red Sea Once Again Dangerous: Houthis Attack Greek Bulker, Two Dead
According to glavcom.ua: According to sources close to the situation, the incident happened approximately 50 nautical miles west of the Yemeni capital controlled by Houthi rebels. The vessel 'Eternity C' was attacked by drones and boats near the port of Hodeidah, the management company Cosmoship Management from Piraeus reported to Reuters.
A new attack occurred in the Red Sea on a Liberian-flagged bulk carrier operated by a Greek company, resulting in the deaths of two crew members, while another two were injured. This information was reported by the publication Glavkom, citing SKAI.
This attack resulted in two crew members sustaining serious injuries, while another two are missing. A representative from Cosmoship stated that the bridge and communication equipment on the ship were damaged, complicating communication with the crew. The bulker 'Eternity C' was en route to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia when it became a victim of the attack.
Reaction and Warning of Possible Threat
The UK Maritime Trade Operations center (UKMTO) also confirmed the incident, claiming that the vessel was attacked by rocket-propelled grenades from small boats. Authorities have started an investigation, and all vessels in the area have been advised to exercise caution at sea.
The attack occurred after the Houthis announced earlier on Monday that they had sunk a cargo ship they targeted with artillery fire, rockets, and remotely operated boats carrying explosives in the Red Sea. This was their first known attack in open waters this year. The vessel's operator, the Greek company Stem Shipping, confirmed that all crew members of the bulk carrier 'Magic Seas' were rescued by another commercial vessel and are expected to arrive in Djibouti later on Monday. The 'Magic Seas', which was carrying cargo from China to Turkey, began taking on water after the attack and remained at risk of sinking.
During the new attack in the Red Sea on a Liberian-flagged bulk carrier, two crew members were killed, and another two were injured. The attack took place near Yemen, controlled by rebels, confirming the escalation of the situation in the region and the heightened threat to vessels passing through the area.
