Ukrainian consumers may feel relieved as potato prices have sharply fallen to 9-16 hryvnias per kilogram. According to East-fruit.com, since the beginning of September this year, potato prices have significantly dropped due to a large harvest.

Retail prices for potatoes have fallen and currently stand at 9-16 hryvnias per kilogram. This sharp decline in prices is a result of the arrival of late-ripening varieties of potatoes, which further reduced product costs. Wholesale prices have also decreased on average by 10% over the week.

Analysts note a change in consumer preferences - buyers have become more selective about quality. While previously even small potatoes sold easily, now the demand for them is minimal.

At the end of September, prices slightly jumped to 16 hryvnias per kilogram in supermarkets, also due to transportation and storage costs. However, the main reason for low prices is the increase in the area under potatoes by Ukrainian farmers, which has led to an excess of production.

Forecasts for the future

According to experts, no significant changes in potato prices are expected in October. The wholesale price will remain at the level of 12-18 hryvnias, while retail will fluctuate between 20-26 hryvnias per kilogram.

It should be noted that earlier, a sharp increase in food prices was observed in Ukraine.

Ukrainian consumers can rejoice as potato prices have affected their wallets. The price drop is a result of a large harvest and increased planting area under potatoes by farmers. It is predicted that prices will remain stable in October.
