How War Has Reshaped the Lives of Ilona Gvozdova and Ivan Khom’yachuk

According to РБК-Україна — Lite: For the first time, Ukrainian choreographer Ilona Gvozdova has revealed what her husband, Ivan Khom’yachuk, has been doing since the full-scale war began. Before the conflict, Ivan ran a catering business, but he now serves in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, working on critically important military infrastructure.

“My husband is currently working on critical military infrastructure that cannot be discussed in detail. He serves in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Previously, he was in catering,” Gvozdova stated.

The Story of How They Met and Their Relationship

The couple’s origin story is also noteworthy. Ilona and Ivan first crossed paths in the subway, where Ivan held the door open for her. As the choreographer confessed,

“we’ve been inseparable ever since.”

They dated for five years before finally tying the knot in 2014.

Ilona admitted their relationship faced its share of trials:

“He, I think, was tormenting me-dating a woman for five years is quite an ordeal. There was a hint of it, so I simply packed my bags and left. I actually do that quite often.”

Regarding their marriage, the couple wed in a church ceremony in 2023. Ilona recalled telling Ivan: “Listen, it’s either one way or the other. I’m young, beautiful, and talented. I need to know if I’m building a life with you or moving on. After that, we got married.”

The couple is raising two children: a daughter named Valeria and a son named Dominik. According to Ilona, “the couple has been together for 17 years.” She filed for divorce last year, though details surrounding that decision have not been disclosed.

This story highlights how the war has transformed the lives of many Ukrainians, including those who previously worked in civilian roles. Ivan Khom’yachuk’s shift from the catering industry to military service illustrates citizens’ adaptability and readiness to face new challenges. Moreover, the couple’s personal relationship-having endured both time and crisis-underscores the importance of support and mutual understanding during difficult periods.
