Ministry of Energy Explained the Difference in Power Outages: Why the West Has Advantages
According to glavcom.ua: The Ministry of Energy explained that the different situation with electricity supply across the regions of Ukraine arose due to physical limitations, not because of injustice. In frontline and border regions with Russia, electricity supply systems have been damaged due to shelling and damage to electricity generation.
The main problem lies in the damage to generation and electricity transmission systems in the mentioned regions. The absence of 'energy bridges' complicates the uniform distribution of electricity throughout the country. The situation turned out to be more complicated than it may seem at first glance.
The western part of Ukraine has the largest capacities for electricity generation due to nuclear power plants and imports from Europe. However, the east, south, and center of the country continue to face shelling, leading to energy deficits in these regions.
Physical Limitations and Consequences of Attacks on Energy Structure
High-voltage lines and transformers are needed to transmit electricity to the central and eastern regions. However, the enemy is trying to cause damage to these facilities, leading to energy preservation in production regions. This results in an uneven distribution of electricity across different parts of the country.
The destruction of the main means of electricity transmission limits the process of its distribution between regions. Damaged lines lead to electricity remaining in the regions where it is produced or from where it is imported. This creates an energy deficit in the center, south, and east of Ukraine.
Local shelling in the conflict zone also causes accidents and overload in the energy system, deepening the difference in the duration of power outages between regions. Thus, it is hard to consider this situation unjust since it is determined by the objective physical limitations of the energy system.
The Situation in Odesa
Earlier in Odesa, due to attacks, energy supply was canceled. Promises of restoration of supply are being made, but the forecasts remain ambiguous. Local residents will have to wait for the coming days to see improvements in the electricity supply situation.
The Ukrainian energy system is facing significant challenges due to physical damage caused by the international conflict. The distribution of electricity between the regions of the country is limited by physical factors, leading to varying availability of electricity supply in different parts of Ukraine.
