In Kyiv, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told Danish media that the only obstacle to handing over Patriot missiles to Ukraine is a lack of political will. She made clear that support is vital ahead of the colder months, when the Russian threat is likely to intensify. According to Frederiksen, Western countries are in a position to deliver interceptor missiles immediately.

Frederiksen also pointed out that European states are already taking on the bulk of the responsibility for supporting Ukraine. Even so, she said, the United States cannot be left out because it holds the production license for Patriot missiles. For his part, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine needs up to 360 Patriot missiles for the winter season. He also noted that Germany has agreed to send several hundred PAC-2 missiles, but deliveries are not expected until 2027-2028.

France's contribution

Following talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, Zelensky said Ukraine would receive additional radars for its air-defense systems. Macron, meanwhile, confirmed that Paris would boost support for Ukraine and provide interceptor missiles.

Mette Frederiksen: 'If we fail to do this, Ukraine will face a winter in which the Russians will strike without mercy, including with ballistic missiles, and will kill a great number of people.'

With the Russian threat growing, appeals from Denmark and other Western governments for increased military aid to Ukraine are becoming more pressing by the day.
