The 30th session of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention has begun in The Hague. The Ukrainian delegation, led by Oleksandr Mishchenko, is working hard to ensure the foreign policy interests of the country, actively participating in the activities of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, and countering attempts by the Russian Federation to influence international arms control mechanisms.

Oleksandr Mishchenko firmly condemned Russia's actions during the session, which is using chemical substances against Ukraine, violating the Convention. Ukraine called on the States Parties not to support Russia in its bid for a seat on the Executive Council of the OPCW.

'Russia systematically violates the Chemical Weapons Convention and has neither the moral nor political right to claim a seat on the Executive Council of the OPCW. Its place is not among the states that adhere to international law, but in the dock,' said Oleksandr Mishchenko.

Ukraine calls for joining efforts to counter Russia's attempts to influence the OPCW and support the candidacies of Ukraine, Slovakia, and Slovenia for membership in the Executive Council. The unity of the international community is a guarantee for the preservation of the prohibition on chemical weapons, which Ukraine insists upon.

Negotiations with Partners

Oleksandr Mishchenko held bilateral negotiations with representatives from Germany and Great Britain, discussing support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and issues in international organizations, particularly the OPCW.

Meetings of the delegation with the ambassadors of Turkey and Australia also took place during the session. The work of the Ukrainian delegation continues with the aim of mobilizing support for candidates for positions in the Executive Council of the OPCW.

Ukraine is actively participating in the session of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention, condemns Russia's actions, and calls for unity of the international community to maintain the prohibition on chemical weapons. The delegation is also conducting negotiations with partners to mobilize support in the fight against aggression and in the work of international organizations.
