According to glavcom.ua: Ukrainian Olympic champion Svitlana Zhurova condemned the banner of Ukrainian fans with the burned Kremlin wall during the match Ukraine - Iceland. She called this act barbaric, offensive, and extremist. Zhurova urged UEFA to conduct an extremism check in connection with such manifestations.
The sports world was also upset by the participation of Russian speed skater Oleksandra Saitina in a propaganda event hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Other Russian athletes who participated in the war in Donbas were also present at the event. This violates the IOC recommendations regarding neutral athletes and international standards in sports.
