European Union Aid Arrives in Kyiv

According to Главком: Kyiv has received a major shipment of generators from the European Union and other donors to support its energy infrastructure. The capital has taken delivery of 323 generators, which form part of a larger EU aid package totaling 500 autonomous power units for the city.

This technical assistance includes:

  • 438 units with a capacity of 20 kW;
  • 62 units with a capacity of 22 kW.

The first batch of aid to reach Kyiv consisted of 177 devices. The handover of the equipment was overseen by EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, and representatives from Ukraine's Ministry for Communities and Territories Development. The machinery was provided from the EU's strategic civil protection reserve, rescEU.

In addition to this EU support, 30 generators from France arrived in Kyiv on February 4. Earlier, on January 30, the city received 162 electricity generators and 846 electric heaters from the Krakow Archdiocese. Catholic communities in Krakow and Łódź also plan to donate their Sunday collection on February 1. At the request of Pope Francis, three trucks carrying medicines, food, and 80 electricity generators were dispatched to Ukraine.

Contributing to Energy Stability

This assistance is strengthening Kyiv's energy system and providing the city with vital resources during a challenging period. The aid is crucial as Ukraine's energy infrastructure has been a repeated target of attacks, creating an urgent need for backup power.

The generators from the EU and other donors are a key part of Ukraine's efforts to ensure energy stability amid an ongoing energy crisis. Support from international partners, particularly through civil protection mechanisms, demonstrates solidarity and a readiness to assist Ukraine in difficult times. This not only aids in restoring energy infrastructure but also enhances the safety and comfort levels for Kyiv's residents.
