Bohdana Pivnenko Shows Her Support

According to Главком: Violinist Bohdana Pivnenko has publicly defended her father, celebrated Ukrainian painter Ivan Marchuk, and his assistant Tamara Strypko amid a legal dispute over image rights to his paintings. Marchuk, a recipient of the Taras Shevchenko Prize and the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise (5th class) from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, recently turned 90 and celebrated his birthday on May 12. This legal case has drawn attention to the challenges surrounding intellectual property in the art world.

A permanent exhibition of Marchuk's work, featuring his 'Shevchenkiana' series, opened at the 'Chocolate House' art center in Kyiv. This showcase has become a major milestone for his admirers, especially following the record-breaking sale of one of his paintings at a Sotheby's auction.

The Role of Tamara Strypko

Bohdana Pivnenko shared her perspective on the situation surrounding her father and Tamara Strypko, stating:

“While I was grieving the death of Oleh, a lot of dirt started piling up around my father and Tamara Strypko. I don't read any of it, and I have no intention to. I already have enough sorrow in my life right now.” - Bohdana Pivnenko

She underscored Strypko's vital role in Marchuk's life, noting that “Tamara Strypko took over organizing Marchuk's life, and that was his choice! She has spent years arranging his exhibitions, promoting his work, managing his daily needs, and creating conditions where he can focus on what matters most-creating art.”

Tamara Strypko, who has dedicated many years to curating Marchuk's exhibitions, continues to oversee his health and handle countless daily organizational tasks, shouldering immense responsibility. Bohdana Pivnenko expressed heartfelt gratitude for Strypko's unwavering support and dedication to working with the artist.

This public backing from Bohdana Pivnenko highlights the importance of unity and mutual support during difficult times, while also emphasizing Ivan Marchuk's significant contributions to Ukrainian art.

The ongoing legal dispute surrounding Ivan Marchuk and Tamara Strypko not only reflects personal relationships but also raises critical questions about protecting artists' legacies in Ukraine. The outcome of this court battle could influence how Marchuk's work is promoted in the future and shape his standing within the art community. As the nation celebrates his anniversary and recent achievements, the case serves as a reminder of the need to safeguard the rights of artists in today's society.
