Mayor's Home in Dnipro Narrowly Missed by Downed Kamikaze Drone: Filatov's Account
Events in Dnipro on February 28
According to Главком: A Russian drone attack on Dnipro on February 28 saw a 'Shahed' kamikaze drone shot down, which crashed just 10 meters from the private residence of Mayor Borys Filatov. A series of powerful explosions were heard during the assault, and a fire broke out in one district. Preliminary reports indicate there were no casualties from this specific incident.
Borys Filatov: 'The downed Shahed fell just 10 meters from my private home. Not 100, not 500, not somewhere on the horizon. Ten meters. What saved the situation here was an ordinary, thick retaining wall.'
He added: 'During a full-scale war in frontline Dnipro, anyone could find themselves in my place. And many have already had such an experience. Now it was simply my turn.'
Recent Attacks on the City
This event follows a series of attacks on the city throughout February. The night of February 17 saw another assault, reported by the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Ganzha, which caused a fire and damaged an administrative building and cars. A further attack occurred on the night of February 12, involving ballistic missiles and drones. That earlier attack injured two children-an infant and a four-year-old girl, who are receiving medical care.
The downing of a drone so close to the mayor's home underscores the persistent threat faced by residents in cities near the front lines. Dnipro, a major logistical hub, has been a frequent target since Russia's full-scale invasion began in 2022. The city authorities continue to urge residents to remain vigilant and prepared for possible further attacks amid the ongoing war.
