Widow of Fallen Actor Yurii Felipenko Makes Emotional Appeal to Ukrainians
Honoring the Memory of Yurii Felipenko
According to РБК-Україна — Lite: A year after his death, the wife of actor Yurii Felipenko, Kateryna Motrych, paid tribute to him. In a heartfelt post, she shared photos of the couple and their private messages, expressing profound grief and directly blaming Russia for his killing. Felipenko died on June 15, 2025, while defending Ukraine as a member of the 92nd Assault Brigade. This tragedy highlights the ongoing human cost of the war, with countless families enduring similar losses.
Motrych posted several images with Felipenko and revealed their last exchanges. She stated that her final attempt to reach him was on June 15, when her message went unanswered. She broke the devastating news of his death that same day, a crushing blow for her and their loved ones. The farewell ceremony for Felipenko took place on June 19 in Kyiv. It began with a tribute at the Kyiv Drama Theater on Podil, where he had worked, followed by a service at St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery. The soldier was laid to rest at Berkovets Cemetery in Kyiv.
Memories and the Pain of Loss
Kateryna and Yurii married in June 2024, and the actor had joined the military to defend the country in April of that year. In her reflections, Kateryna conveyed deep feelings of loss, stating:
“I miss the messages saying ‘all 450,’ the tired eyes, the happy voice when we met. I miss the dreams and plans.” - Kateryna Motrych
She emphasized that “death changes people, both those directly involved and bystanders,” and while her pain has eased somewhat, it has transformed into something different.
Motrych also noted that she has managed to “fight for life, to find the strength to live for two,” but this does not mean forgetting. She preserves her husband’s memory, saying:
