Kyiv Activates Emergency Food Network as Power Cuts Leave Residents Without Heat and Gas

Hot Meals for Kyiv Residents and the Surrounding Region

According to ДСНС: In response to widespread power and gas outages caused by recent attacks, Ukraine's State Emergency Service (SES), in collaboration with partner organizations, has established a network of emergency food distribution points for residents of Kyiv and the surrounding region. The SES has prepared 41 field kitchens for this initiative. Currently, 4 kitchens are actively providing meals for SES personnel, while the remaining 37 are on standby for rapid deployment across the city.

Operations and Impact

A total of 56 hot meal distribution points are now operational across Kyiv, enabling a swift response to residents' needs. Over the past week, these sites have distributed more than 26,000 hot meals. Additionally, a food truck in Brovary is providing 16,000 meals daily. In Irpin, a specialized kitchen train provided by Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) distributes 4,000 meals each day.

The SES has also signed a memorandum of cooperation with international organizations, including World Central Kitchen and the Red Cross, enhancing the effectiveness of aid delivery under these emergency conditions. This coordinated effort represents a critical step in supporting the population during an extremely difficult period. These food distribution points are a direct response to the critical situation created by attacks on energy infrastructure, which have left many without heating or the ability to cook. The collaboration with international partners not only strengthens the resource base for providing essential food but also demonstrates global solidarity in a time of crisis. It serves as a key example of how state and international structures can work together to support civilians during emergencies.
