eCherha system gains new features for private vehicles

According to ХВИЛЯ: The Ministry of Communities and Territories Development has announced the start of work on an expanded version of the eCherha system, which for the first time will include private passenger cars. This upgrade introduces intelligent services for commercial carriers, including the ability to reserve a spot for cars. Users will be able to register for border crossing through the Diia mobile app, the official website, or the dedicated eCherha application.

New mechanisms and integrations

A key innovation is the integration with the id.gov.ua system, which will simplify the registration process. During booking, the system will automatically check the validity of the Green Card insurance policy, adding an extra layer of security. Users will only need to enter their vehicle's license plate for verification. Since the project began, trucks and buses have completed over 3 million border crossings using online reservations, demonstrating the system's effectiveness.

  • For freight transport, automatic verification of customs documents such as T1 or TIR carnets is being introduced.
  • A priority passage system will be implemented for companies with Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) status, allowing them to clear controls faster.
  • Passenger carriers will be able to book queue slots for transit routes.
  • Shuttle services can now be registered using a single permit number.
  • The system also allows one-time use of documents for irregular trips.

The development of the new eCherha functionality is supported by the European Union, as well as the governments of the United Kingdom and the United States. A contract for the development has already been signed. Oleksiy Kuleba, a representative of the Ministry, stated:

“The system does not simply replace physical waiting in line; it allows us to ensure predictable logistics.”

Rolling out these new features in the eCherha system marks a significant step in modernizing border crossing procedures, which can positively impact businesses and simplify life for citizens. The system’s growing efficiency-already handling over 3 million crossings-underscores its necessity and relevance in today’s environment. International backing also highlights the importance of this project for the development of Ukraine's infrastructure.

In light of these advancements, it's important to note that a similar initiative, aimed at revolutionizing border crossings for vehicles, is set to launch soon. The upcoming 'eQueue' system in Ukraine promises to enhance the overall efficiency of border procedures, further streamlining the experience for travelers and commercial transport alike.
