According to Міністерство Туризму: On September 29, 2023, #GGTCKyiv participated in an event honoring World Tourism Day, hosted by Ukraine’s State Agency for Tourism Development (DART). The gathering focused on critical themes such as enhancing safety, embracing digital transformation, and promoting transparency within the tourism sector. A key highlight was the discussion around the development of the Unified Tourism Registry, a pilot project under #GovTechLabUA supported by Mastercard and implemented in partnership with CityTax.
The panel was moderated by Ihor Markevych, Community Officer at EIT Community Hub Ukraine. Panelists included top representatives from DART, including Chairperson Natalia Tabaka, Head of Tourism Development and Digitalization Oleksandr Vesheleni, and Kostiantyn Koshelenko, Director of Public Sector Cooperation in Ukraine and Moldova. Their conversation centered on modernizing the Unified Tourism Registry to improve the transparency and management of tourism data nationwide.
Transforming Ukraine’s Tourism Industry
The upgraded registry and upcoming legislative reforms are set to foster greater openness and reduce informal practices within Ukraine’s tourism market. The conclusion of three pilot projects from the first cohort of GovTech Lab marks a significant milestone in the sector’s advancement. This initiative is driven by the Global Government Technology Centre Kyiv, with backing from the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, the World Economic Forum, and the Swiss-Ukrainian EGAP Program, implemented by the East Europe Foundation.
Addressing systemic challenges such as market safety, digitalization, and the fight against shadow economy practices remains a priority for all stakeholders involved. The collaboration between DART, Mastercard, and CityTax underscores the vital role of public-private partnerships in achieving shared goals for Ukraine’s tourism development.
