Former US Intelligence Chief Releases Map of Biolabs Filled With Major Errors
Funding for Biological Laboratories
According to Главком: Tulsi Gabbard, the former Director of National Intelligence, has released documents detailing U.S. government funding for over 120 biological laboratories worldwide, including facilities located in Ukraine. The publication included a map that placed Kyiv near Odesa and mislabeled the city of Cherniv. Additionally, Crimea and Transcarpathia were shown as individual towns rather than regions. These geographical inaccuracies have raised concerns among journalists and experts.
Expert Criticism and Reactions
Specialists responded sharply to the release. Christo Grozev noted that
“by doing this, Gabbard is effectively aiding Russian information campaigns.”
Christopher Miller added that the former official took the opportunity to once again promote one of her long-standing conspiracy theories about alleged American biolabs in Ukraine.
It’s worth noting that, according to the Pentagon, since 2005, the U.S.-Ukraine biosecurity cooperation program has directed approximately $200 million to support 46 Ukrainian laboratories. However, no evidence has ever been presented to suggest that Ukraine hosts American labs involved in biological weapons development. This situation highlights the complexity of issues surrounding biosecurity and information policy amid modern geopolitical tensions.
The release of materials by Tulsi Gabbard shows how information about biological laboratories can become a target for manipulation and speculation during times of political strain. The incorrect geographic markers on the map indicate a lack of attention to detail, which could undermine trust in the presented data. At the same time, the experts' reactions underscore the importance of critical thinking when evaluating such claims, especially in the context of the information wars being waged in today's world.
