Why Understanding Iranian and Russian Institutions is Critical

According to ХВИЛЯ: In an interview with Yuriy Romanenko, international security expert Tamirlan Vagabov stressed that to effectively counter Iran and Russia, Ukraine must gain a profound understanding of their internal institutions. Vagabov pointed out that the Iranian regime is a direct adversary of Ukraine, as its weapons supplies to the Russian Federation significantly complicate the situation for the Ukrainian state. This analysis comes at a time when military cooperation between Moscow and Tehran is deepening, posing a complex, two-front challenge for Kyiv.

Vagabov emphasized that to successfully counter Iran, Ukraine must study in detail how its regime functions.

"If you don't understand how it [Iran] works, all you'll do is complain about it supplying something to Russia," the expert noted.

He argued that while raw power is important at a macro level, it must be precisely directed and organized; otherwise, institutional inefficiency can lead to negative outcomes.

A Deeper Comprehension of Russia is Also Essential

Vagabov also highlighted the necessity of a deep understanding of Russia.

"The same applies to Russia. We need to understand Russia very well, and I don't think we know it quite that deeply yet," he said.

He cited Venezuela and the Congo as examples of countries rich in resources but with ineffective states, underscoring that resources alone are not enough without efficient institutions to utilize them properly.

Therefore, for Ukraine, which faces challenges from both Iran and Russia, it is critically important to comprehend the internal mechanisms of these nations. This understanding can aid in developing strategies to counter potential threats and strengthen state security. Creating specialized analytical centers and developing expert committees focused on these regions could be vital steps for bolstering Ukraine's national security.
