According to glavcom.ua: The European Union has decided to allocate €76 million in grant aid to Ukraine for the construction of a European gauge railway between Lviv and the border with Poland. The project was approved by the Coordination Committee of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). This was reported by 'Glavkom', citing Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Kubа.

This project is the first stage of a future direct railway connection with Europe: Sknyliv - Mostyska II.

"The European gauge railway means shorter travel times, new transit opportunities, and relieving border crossing points. It also represents an investment in the country’s economic resilience, trade development, export enhancement, and new opportunities for business and logistics. It is a clear signal that Ukraine is already part of the European transport network, and our integration is taking place now," highlighted Alexei Kuba.

Consequences of tariff increases from Ukrzaliznytsia

The minister called this project "very important," especially under the conditions of a full-scale war, when it concerns the country’s ability to ensure stability and movement. This occurs despite the challenges of war, such as closed airports, ports, and damaged infrastructure.

"Railway infrastructure remains the foundation for critical cargo flows and is the basis for logistics and the economic stability of the state. Therefore, any changes in tariffs must be evaluated not only in terms of short-term impacts on businesses but also in terms of long-term macroeconomic stability, preserving export potential, and enhancing Ukraine’s transit significance," noted ICC Ukraine.

The European Union's decision to allocate grant assistance to Ukraine for the construction of the European gauge railway is an important step towards integrating Ukraine into the European transport system. Such initiatives promote the country’s economic resilience and enhance its investment attractiveness.
