Meeting of the EU Delegation in Ukraine with Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies

According to 5 канал: The EU Delegation in Ukraine held a meeting with the heads of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP). The event was attended by ambassadors of EU member states, NABU director Semen Kryvonos, and SAP head Oleksandr Klymenko. Photos of the meeting were published on the social networks of the EU Delegation. According to EU representatives,

“Today, an open and constructive meeting took place between ambassadors of EU member states at the EU delegation and the heads of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.”

Extensive Investigative Actions by NABU and SAP

It was noted that NABU and SAP conducted extensive investigative actions within a special operation concerning high-ranking officials, politicians, and business representatives. These actions included searches of:

  • Deputy Head of the President's Office Iryna Mudra,
  • People's Deputy from the banned party 'Opposition Platform – For Life' Vadym Stolar,
  • Former People's Deputy Maksym Mykyta.

The court chose a precautionary measure for Maksym Mykyta in the form of detention or bail set at 30 million hryvnias. The prosecutor's office, in turn, requested a bail of 200 million hryvnias for Mykyta. He is considered one of the organizers of corruption schemes in the 'Femida' and 'Forest Gump' cases. He is accused of creating a criminal organization, seizing property, and laundering funds.

The EU Delegation in Ukraine emphasized that

“The EU will continue to provide strong support for Ukraine's anti-corruption efforts as it moves forward on its European path.”

This support is crucial for the further development of anti-corruption initiatives in Ukraine, especially in the context of recent events involving high-ranking officials.

The meeting between EU representatives and the heads of Ukraine's anti-corruption agencies highlights the importance of international support in the fight against corruption, which remains a serious problem for the country. These issues are particularly relevant against the backdrop of intensified investigative actions regarding high-ranking officials, indicating the Ukrainian authorities' commitment to increasing transparency and accountability. The successful implementation of anti-corruption initiatives is a significant step towards Ukraine's European integration.

The ongoing efforts of NABU and SAP to tackle corruption have revealed deep-rooted issues within Ukraine's political landscape. Recent investigations have not only targeted high-ranking officials but also exposed a criminal network involving lawmakers and senior officials. This highlights the significance of the EU's support for anti-corruption measures as Ukraine strives to enhance transparency and accountability in its governance.
