Condemnation of Russian Aggression

According to Главком: A large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine, which took place on the night of May 24, has drawn strong condemnation from officials at the European Union and the Council of Europe. The strike, which targeted Bila Tserkva in the Kyiv region, involved the use of the Oreshnik ballistic missile. This marks the third time Moscow has deployed this weapon system against Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion. More than 80 people were wounded in Kyiv alone as a result of the assault. In response, Ukraine has called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

International Response

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas announced that European foreign ministers will meet next week to discuss ways to increase international pressure on Russia. She stressed the importance of maintaining European unity in the face of aggression. Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset also weighed in, stating that accountability must be a cornerstone of any peace agreement.

The Oreshnik is a medium-range Russian ballistic missile designed to carry nuclear warheads. Notably, the initiative for a Special Tribunal on the Crime of Aggression, under the auspices of the Council of Europe, has now gained the support of 36 countries and the European Union. These developments highlight the growing international backlash against Russia’s actions and underscore the urgent need to hold the aggressor accountable.

This attack once again underscores the severity of the situation in Ukraine and the critical need for continued international support. As the threat from Russia persists, the global community is rallying to reinforce stability in the region. Ongoing discussions at the UN and EU levels may prove pivotal in shaping a strategy to counter aggression and secure a just peace for Ukraine.

The ongoing situation has raised significant concerns among EU leaders, who have expressed their condemnation of the recent strikes on civilian areas.
