Yevhen Bohodayko Named Kyiv’s Ambassador for Barrier-Free Access

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: Six-time Paralympic champion Yevhen Bohodayko has been appointed as Kyiv’s ambassador for barrier-free access. Renowned for his multiple world and European titles in para-swimming, Bohodayko will actively engage in public awareness campaigns, sports events, and the advancement of adaptive sports and accessible athletic infrastructure throughout the capital. Notably, in September 2026, he secured a gold medal in the 100-meter breaststroke SB6 category at the European Para Swimming Championships held in Turkey.

Goals and Initiatives Ahead

In his ambassadorial role, Bohodayko plans to offer free training sessions and sporting activities for military personnel, veterans, and people with disabilities. He will also contribute to developing proposals that enhance Kyiv’s barrier-free sports infrastructure and create inclusive spaces for individuals with diverse needs. The first person to hold the title of Kyiv’s ambassador for barrier-free access was Ulyana Pcholkina.

Marina Honda, Deputy Head of Kyiv City State Administration responsible for autonomous powers and barrier-free initiatives, emphasized the significance of involving active community members in the ambassador network:

Barrier-free access must be integrated into every aspect of city life-from public spaces and services to sports, communication, and social relations. That’s why it’s essential for us to engage active individuals who bring personal experience, a following, and a commitment to promote these values. Yevhen has represented Ukraine at the highest international levels for many years and actively participates in community life. I am confident his voice will strengthen the city’s message on barrier-free access.

By serving as Kyiv’s ambassador for barrier-free access, Yevhen Bohodayko will play a key role in promoting adaptive sports and supporting municipal projects focused on accessibility. His expertise and community involvement will help foster a more inclusive environment for all Kyiv residents, regardless of physical ability. These initiatives are vital elements of the city’s social policy, advancing inclusion and support for various population groups. They also demonstrate Kyiv’s commitment to creating a fully accessible urban environment for everyone.
