NBU discusses Eurointegration and new program with the IMF with banks

During the meeting of the NBU Board with the heads of 30 largest banks, topics such as Ukraine's Eurointegration progress, prospects for joining SEPA, possible design of a new program with the IMF, and financing of the defense industry were discussed. Key points from the speeches of NBU Chairman Andriy Pyshny and his deputies.

European Integration

The European Commission's report within the framework of the EU Enlargement Package 2025 confirmed Ukraine's progress in implementing European legislation. Special attention was paid to the liberalization of capital movement, maintaining economic and financial stability, as well as improvements in payment services and open banking.

Joining SEPA

The Ministry of Finance of Ukraine has prepared an updated draft law for joining SEPA. This will bring Ukraine closer to the European Payments Council and allow for independent joining in the future.

New Program with the IMF

The Prime Minister of Ukraine has addressed the IMF with a request for a new funding program. Areas of cooperation include the development of the financial sector, de-shadowing the economy, updating the banking sector, and other strategic issues.

Financing of the Defense Industry

Ukraine has received significant support from partners in the amount of 155 billion USD to support its defense capabilities. Banks are recommended to intensify financial support in this area.

Risks of introducing an increased bank profit tax, capitalization programs, National Bank's decisions in the supervisory field, and the situation in the currency market were also discussed at the meeting.

At the meeting of the National Bank of Ukraine Board with the heads of the largest banks, key issues of the country's Eurointegration, joining SEPA, and financing of the defense industry were discussed. The possibility of a new program with the IMF and other relevant topics aimed at the development of Ukraine's financial sector were also considered.
