Call to activate the role of the EU in peacekeeping efforts

According to ХВИЛЯ: European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius urged the European Union to enhance its role in ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. He emphasized that the EU must not remain an observer but must transition to active participation in shaping a peace strategy. According to Kubilius, European countries need a separate package of proposals in case the negotiations led by Donald Trump's administration do not yield the desired results.

Risks and proposals from Kubilius

Kubilius noted that the EU risks finding itself in a situation where key decisions regarding peace may be made without its involvement. He proposes a 'two-plan' approach which involves developing both European and American scenarios for resolving the conflict. The Commissioner also highlighted the importance of the security aspect, urging consideration of a tough scenario in the context of NATO Article 5.

“The outlines of possible peace must be shaped not only in Washington,” noted Andrius Kubilius.

This statement underscores the necessity of a more active position from the EU on security and peace issues in Europe.

Kubilius' call for an intensification of the EU's role in peacekeeping efforts may reflect growing concern about the influence of external actors on the processes of peaceful resolution. In the context of global politics and security, active EU participation could provide a more balanced platform for negotiations and contribute to stability in the region. This approach also highlights the importance of European unity in addressing crises directly affecting European security.
