European Nations Respond to US Initiative

According to Главком: Key European allies have declined to support a US proposal spearheaded by President Donald Trump to impose a naval blockade on Iranian ports, instead advocating for a different strategy. This reflects a significant transatlantic policy divergence on how to address tensions with Iran. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer explicitly ruled out UK involvement in any military escalation, stating:

“We do not support a blockade. My decision is clear: whatever the pressure – and it is considerable – we will not be drawn into a war.” - Keir Starmer

French President Emmanuel Macron echoed this stance, framing the issue as one of protecting maritime navigation for the post-conflict period. He emphasized a 'shared goal of an independent, coordinated, multinational plan.' Macron announced plans, in coordination with the UK, to convene an international conference to establish mechanisms for safeguarding freedom of navigation. According to Reuters, this conference could take place as early as the end of this week and is expected to involve around 30 nations.

US-Iran Negotiations Continue

In parallel diplomatic channels, the United States has reportedly offered Iran a deal requiring it to completely abandon uranium enrichment for 20 years. Iran rejected this proposal, countering with an offer to freeze its enrichment activities for a period of less than 10 years. European states have indicated they would only commit to maritime security measures after the conflict is resolved, underscoring their focus on a peaceful settlement. The planned multinational meeting represents a concerted European effort to forge a diplomatic, rather than military, consensus on regional stability and the Iranian nuclear question.

As tensions escalate in the region, the ongoing US-Iran negotiations face new challenges due to recent Israeli strikes in Lebanon, which could further complicate diplomatic efforts and impact the fragile balance of power in the Middle East.
