Shooting near the White House: suspect is reportedly a citizen of Afghanistan
A shooting occurred in downtown Washington, D.C., with the suspect reportedly being a citizen of Afghanistan according to the FBI. The man opened fire on two National Guard members near the White House. One of the soldiers is believed to be 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who immigrated to the U.S. from Afghanistan in August 2021.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the perpetrator sustained serious injuries during the shooting and will pay a high price for his crime. The circumstances of the incident remain unknown, but police have already apprehended the suspect. The National Guard is withholding comments.
A tragedy also occurred in Minneapolis - a shooting at a Catholic school where two children died, and 17 people, including 14 children, were injured. The perpetrator, who carried out the attack, subsequently committed suicide. The incident happened during a mass at the school, following morning prayer in the cafeteria. Police continue to investigate to establish the causes and circumstances of this tragedy.
