Operating two key facilities in Warsaw's Muranów district-the Support Center and the Meeting Center-the foundation provides essential services including legal advice, psychological counseling, and social assistance. These resources highlight its importance within the Ukrainian diaspora in Poland. Established in 2001 by the monthly magazine and publishing house Znak, together with the Ergo Hestia insurance group, the Josef Tischner Award honors achievements in both literary and social-pastoral fields since 2022.

Alongside the 'Ukrainian House' Foundation, the 2026 nominees in the social and pastoral category include:

  • Paweł Grabowski, a physician who founded a rural hospice in Podlasie
  • Marta Titaniec, a social activist

Previously, the 2022 award was presented to Grupa Granica and the Catholic Intelligentsia Club (KIK) in this category. The literary nominees for 2026 feature Kristina Cherni, Jacek Kołtan, and Krzysztof Łapiński. Winners will be announced on November 19, 2026, at the Nowa Huta Cultural Center in Kraków.

On Thursday, October 29, 2026, the Potocki Palace in Kraków will host an event titled "A Human's Gift Is Another Human," dedicated to the social and pastoral nominees. This gathering emphasizes the critical role of social work and community support, reflecting the mission of the 'Ukrainian House' Foundation. Beyond providing aid, the foundation fosters connections between Ukrainians and Poles, promoting both integration and the preservation of cultural heritage.

The nomination of the 'Ukrainian House' Foundation for the Josef Tischner Award highlights its significant contribution to Poland's social sector, particularly in supporting the Ukrainian community.

This occasion underscores how social initiatives contribute to maintaining cultural identity while facilitating integration into new environments. The upcoming meeting will serve as a platform to discuss current challenges and the societal impact of social work.
