France accuses TikTok of promoting a dangerous trend of sunburns

According to glavcom.ua: The French government decided not to remain silent regarding the spread of a dangerous trend on TikTok and filed a complaint with the national regulator Arcom. The issue is that videos with advice on getting 'wrinkles from burns' or 'wrinkles from tanning' feature dangerous tips that can harm users' health. Ministers clearly stated that such content encourages risky behavior.

«These types of content... encourage dangerous behavior that can seriously harm users' health,» they emphasized.

Now the government is urging the regulator to initiate an investigation into TikTok's activities to ensure that the company complies with the requirements of digital services legislation. This law aims to protect minors, assess risks, and ensure algorithm transparency.

It is known that Minister Chappaz has already influenced the platform's actions regarding the 'SkinnyTok' trend, which led to the promotion of excessive thinness and harmful eating habits. After pressure from regulators, TikTok was forced to remove this hashtag. It is worth noting that in 2025, major tech companies in the US lost over 94,000 employees as they adapted to the implementation of artificial intelligence.
