The probe was launched following the mass dissemination on the platform of sexually explicit deepfakes generated using Grok. The chatbot has also been previously documented making antisemitic statements. As part of this investigation, X owner Elon Musk and former CEO Linda Yaccarino were summoned for voluntary interviews on April 20. This action highlights the increasing regulatory scrutiny faced by major tech platforms in Europe over harmful AI-generated content.

Scope of the Investigation and Findings

According to research data, Grok was capable of creating up to three million sexualized images in just 11 days during January. Among these, over 23,000 images were found to contain depictions of children. The European Commission has also opened a separate investigation under EU online platform legislation. The Paris prosecutor's office is examining potential violations, including:

• dissemination of material harmful to minors;
• creation of pornographic deepfakes;
• distribution of Holocaust denial content.
