Inaugural G7-Ukraine Multilateral Summit

According to Зеленський: The first-ever multilateral G7-Ukraine meeting took place at the G7 summit, where key cooperation priorities were established. This historic gathering brought together leading world figures, including:

  • French President Emmanuel Macron
  • British Prime Minister Keir Starmer
  • Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni
  • Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney
  • German Chancellor Friedrich Merz
  • U.S. President Donald Trump
  • Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi
  • European Council President António Costa
  • European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen

Areas of Focus for Cooperation

The meeting's priorities included boosting the supply of air defense missiles and issuing licenses for their production, a winter support package, and intensifying pressure on Russia. This session marks a significant step in coordinating international backing for Ukraine and crafting a unified strategy to counter aggression.

“The priorities are clear: increasing the number of air defense missiles and granting licenses for their manufacture, a winter aid package, and ramping up pressure on Russia,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

He also stressed the importance of ensuring that 'everything discussed is actually implemented.'

The United States expressed readiness to provide a backstop for the areas covered in the discussions.

“It is crucial that the U.S. is prepared to offer a backstop for these work streams,” Zelenskyy noted.

He further emphasized the need for 'Russia to understand that its war will never become the norm.' This meeting represents a pivotal moment in reinforcing global support for Ukraine and forging a joint response to aggression.

The G7-Ukraine format underscores the growing international solidarity with Ukraine in its fight against aggression. The outlined priorities, particularly regarding the strengthening of air defenses, demonstrate the partners' serious commitment to helping ensure the country's security. This initiative also serves as a clear signal to Russia that the international community's stance on aggression and the imperative of upholding international law remains unwavering.

In light of the recent G7-Ukraine summit, the urgency for enhanced military support has never been clearer. As Ukraine continues to seek stronger alliances, the call for tighter sanctions and advanced air defense systems from the EU and Ukraine to U.S. President Trump highlights the critical need for a united front against Russian aggression.
