Gas in bills: what we pay to the supplier and what we pay to distribution networks
Difference between gas supply companies and gas distribution networks
According to ХВИЛЯ: This news explains the difference between gas supply companies and gas distribution networks in Ukraine, as well as clarifies what gas consumers pay for. Gas consumers in Ukraine deal with two main market participants: the gas supply company and the gas distribution networks. The gas supply company Naftogaz of Ukraine supplies natural gas to consumers, while gas distribution networks (GRM) are responsible for the distribution and transportation of gas to homes.
Responsibilities of market participants
The GRM operator determines the amount of gas consumed based on meter readings. This means that consumers pay the gas supply company for the gas consumed, and for its delivery – to the GRM operator. The responsibilities of the gas supply company include:
- forming and printing payment invoices,
- purchasing gas,
- providing consultations and customer support.
In turn, the responsibilities of gas distribution networks include:
- maintaining gas networks,
- accounting for gas consumption,
- repairing pipelines,
- forming payments for distribution.
Thus, consumers have to make payments to both the gas supply company and the gas distribution networks, understanding that each of them performs their specific functions in the gas supply and delivery process.
This information is important for consumers as it helps to understand the structure of payment obligations and the role of each participant in the gas system. Knowing their rights and obligations can facilitate better interaction with suppliers and avoid misunderstandings regarding gas consumption bills.
