Honorary Citizen of Kyiv Awarded

According to Главком: On June 18, during a plenary session of the 5th convocation of the 9th Kyiv City Council, Major Yurii Fedorenko (call sign Achilles) was named an Honorary Citizen of Kyiv. The decision, passed by a majority of council members, underscores the recognition of his contributions to the capital and the nation.

A Hero of Ukraine, Fedorenko commands the 429th Separate Brigade of Unmanned Systems "Achilles" within the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Unmanned Systems Forces. Holding the rank of major, he gained combat experience from the very start of Russia's full-scale invasion, defending Kyiv as part of the 112th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade, where he led a rifle company.

Contributions to Ukraine's Defense

Under Fedorenko's leadership, the Achilles unit has carried out combat missions on the Kharkiv, Luhansk, and Donetsk fronts. He took part in the Kharkiv counteroffensive, the battles for Bakhmut, and stabilization efforts near Kupiansk. These actions highlight his significant role in defending Ukraine.

Yurii Fedorenko is a hero and a model of the modern Ukrainian warrior-one who defended Kyiv during its darkest days and later became a key figure in shaping a new standard for the Ukrainian army. Today, the Achilles unit stands as a symbol of technological strength, precision, and effectiveness within the Defense Forces. Granting Fedorenko the title of Honorary Citizen of Kyiv is a recognition of his courage, combat achievements, and contribution to protecting both the capital and all of Ukraine.

Fedorenko has also suggested that conditions for ending the war could emerge in the second half of 2027. He noted that the most intense frontline battles may occur by the end of this year, underscoring the gravity and complexity of the situation faced by Ukrainian troops.

Bestowing the title of Honorary Citizen of Kyiv on Yurii Fedorenko marks an important step in recognizing the sacrifices of military personnel defending the country during wartime. This decision not only highlights Fedorenko's personal achievements but also symbolizes the community's support and gratitude for all service members risking their lives for Ukraine's security. Amid a prolonged war and a challenging frontline situation, such acknowledgments can serve as a vital morale boost for both the military and society at large.
