Setting the Record Straight on Pressure Allegations Against the Armed Forces Chief

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: Mykhailo Drapatyi, Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, has denied that his wife Yulia publicly spoke about pressure on him. A statement circulating on Threads and other social platforms was attributed to her, claiming he was under pressure because of “too radical changes.” It also alleged that Drapatyi might step down early unless he received systemic support, with the pressure coming from people tied to the previous military leadership and political circles.

In response, Drapatyi made clear that no one in his family issues public statements or gives official comments, and that nobody was authorized to speak on their behalf.

“I emphasize separately: members of my family do not make public statements, do not give official comments, and have not authorized anyone to speak on their behalf. Any statements or positions attributed to them do not correspond to reality,” he said.

He also urged people to check information sources and avoid spreading unverified posts.

Drapatyi noted that some attacks against him are coordinated and involve bot networks.

“I thank the Ministry of Digital Transformation for detecting and blocking such networks. This is important work, and it continues,” he added.

He assumed command of the Armed Forces on July 24; on the same day, Major General Ihor Skibyuk became head of the General Staff. On July 26, a message falsely attributed to Drapatyi about launching an audit in the Armed Forces of Ukraine appeared online.

The situation underscores the need to verify information amid today’s information challenges, especially around military and political developments. It also highlights how coordinated disinformation can be used to destabilize institutions, making media literacy and public vigilance essential.
