A New Toggle in Google Search Console

According to НВ — Техно: Google has unveiled a new toggle within Search Console that will allow site owners to prevent their content from being used in artificial intelligence features like AI Overviews and AI Mode. Initially, this option will be tested with a small group of domain owners in the United Kingdom, with plans for a global rollout after the trial concludes. Sites that choose to opt out will not receive impressions or clicks from generative AI features, but this setting will not affect their standard search rankings.

Additional Tools and Regulatory Collaboration

Beyond this, Google is introducing extra tools in Search Console that show which pages appear in AI-generated answers and in which countries. This announcement comes a few weeks after the I/O 2026 conference, where the company showcased a dynamic search bar for complex queries and the ability to use video, images, files, and Chrome browser tabs as inputs.

Google is also working with the UK's Competition and Markets Authority to implement these changes. Condé Nast CEO Roger Lynch commented:

He does not expect search referrals to disappear entirely but predicts that traffic from Google will only account for a single-digit percentage of total audience for publications.
