Three AI Tools Replace Google Search Button in Latest Homepage Test
Google's Homepage Gets a New Experimental Look
According to НВ — Техно: Some signed-out users now see a redesigned Google homepage, with the familiar Search button gone. In its place are three AI-driven options: "Create image," "Ask about files," and "Brainstorm." The test was first spotted on Monday and could be reproduced in Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Perplexity Comet. It reflects the broader industry movement toward making AI-generated answers a routine part of online search.
The buttons appear beneath the search box in this test build. Neither "Ask about files" nor "Brainstorm" requires a Google account: the former lets people upload documents and ask questions about them, while the latter opens a Gemini chat. "Create image," however, prompts users to sign in and redirects them to an account login page.
Remaining Features and Unknown Scope
Within the search bar itself, the AI Mode button still appears, and the "I'm Feeling Lucky" option remains available. Signing into a Google account makes the three new buttons vanish, but they come back immediately after logout. The scale of the experiment and the countries involved are unclear, and other users and reporters could not reproduce the design even with the same browsers and different VPN locations.
Google has not disclosed how many people encounter the new layout or whether it plans to roll it out to everyone. Even if the test expands, it does not signal that the Search button is being permanently retired. Google routinely experiments with different homepage designs, and many of those variants never reach a worldwide launch.
The experiment points to Google's effort to weave artificial intelligence into everyday search, offering users fresh ways to engage with information.
With AI playing an increasingly important role in technology, such design shifts could represent meaningful steps toward changing how people find knowledge and resources online. Watching how these updates evolve will be key to understanding their impact on the overall user experience.
This shift towards AI-enhanced search capabilities is part of a larger trend where companies like Google are increasingly leveraging user-generated content for training their systems. For instance, Google is set to utilize images and voice queries from Ukrainians to improve its AI models. Such initiatives highlight the growing intersection of user interaction and AI development, further shaping the future of online search.
