Google Slashes AI Subscription to $5 and Doubles Cloud Storage
Google Overhauls Its AI Plus Plan with Lower Pricing and More Storage
According to Главком: Starting June 8, 2026, Google has reduced the monthly cost of its AI Plus subscription from $8 to $5 while doubling the included cloud storage from 200 GB to 400 GB. In Ukraine, the plan is priced at 54.99 UAH per month for the first three months, then increases to 224.99 UAH per month thereafter. These changes represent a significant shift in Google's AI pricing strategy.
Beyond the price cut, Google is expanding AI Plus availability to 40 new countries, including Ukraine. According to Vikas Kansal, Google's product lead, who shared the update on social media platform X, this move aims to make artificial intelligence tools more accessible to a broader user base.
New Features Included in AI Plus
The updated AI Plus plan introduces several new capabilities for subscribers:
- AI-powered email tools to enhance productivity;
- A Daily Brief agent that summarizes scheduled events within the Gemini app;
- Access to Gemini Omni, a new model capable of generating video from any type of input data.
Competing services in the market include OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus at $20 per month (roughly $24 for Ukrainian users after VAT) and Microsoft Copilot Pro for $30 per month. For context, OpenAI offers a discounted rate starting at $4.50 for users in India and Indonesia.
This aggressive price reduction and expanded market reach suggest Google is working to strengthen its foothold in the AI sector amid intensifying competition from rivals like OpenAI and Microsoft. By combining lower costs with new features, Google hopes to attract more users and make its AI tools more appealing, particularly in price-sensitive markets such as Ukraine.
In addition to the pricing adjustments, Google's recent announcements at the I/O 2026 conference reveal a new ecosystem of AI agents designed to enhance user interaction with artificial intelligence. This initiative aligns with the company's strategy to broaden its offerings and improve accessibility, further solidifying its position in the competitive AI landscape.
