Yuriy Horbunov Reflects on the Complex Personality of Longtime Collaborator Stanislav Boklan
Stanislav Boklan Through the Eyes of Yuriy Horbunov
According to РБК-Україна — Lite: Yuriy Horbunov, a well-known Ukrainian actor and producer, has known Stanislav Boklan-a People's Artist of Ukraine-for almost three decades. Their friendship was recently renewed while working together on the film 'Train 'Chervona Ruta'. In discussing Boklan's character, Horbunov acknowledged his difficult nature but stressed his experience and team value.
Their initial encounter occurred during the shoot for a music video by director Semen Gorov, with whom Horbunov had studied. After graduating, Boklan spent five years performing at the Ivano-Frankivsk Theater before moving to Kyiv. Horbunov noted that while Boklan is emotional and they sometimes argue loudly, those disagreements are strictly work-related.
“Naturally, he is emotional. There are times we argue, even at high volumes, but it's always work-related. When the whole team is striving to produce a quality picture, creative disputes are bound to happen.” Yuriy Horbunov
Horbunov also underlined his deep appreciation for Boklan's expertise. “I truly value Stas for his experience. Sometimes he suggests ideas we never even considered. The younger crew members listen to him. Sure, emotions occasionally get the better of him, but I take it calmly,” he added.
During filming, the director has the final say because they see the whole picture and understand how everything fits into a single narrative. “Before shooting starts, there's a preparatory phase where everyone shares ideas, debates, and proposes solutions. But once filming begins, the director has the last word,” Horbunov explained.
The Value of Collaboration in Creative Teams
Horbunov's view of Boklan is multifaceted: despite emotional outbursts and potential conflicts, he regards him as a vital team member whose experience and professionalism are respected by younger colleagues.
This account underscores the significance of collaboration and communication in creative teams, where emotional intensity can be both a challenge and a driving force for producing high-quality work. Boklan's years of accumulated experience serve as an invaluable resource for younger actors and crew members involved in new Ukrainian film projects.
