Greece has decided to extend temporary protection for Ukrainians until 2027
The Greek government officially extended the temporary protection regime for Ukrainian citizens until March 4, 2027. The decision was made in coordination with the European Union, so Ukrainians will continue to be able to legally reside, work, and enjoy basic social rights in the country. This is reported by the Ukrainian embassy in Greece.
The decision provides for a streamlined procedure for most permit holders and removes the need to contact state bodies for document renewal. Authorities emphasize that this step was agreed upon at the European level and aimed at stabilizing the legal status of Ukrainians.

Residence permits that expired between March 2023 and March 2026 will be automatically extended. No applications, visits to institutions, or document updates are required - the extension occurs without any action needed from the permit holders.
Document update for traveling abroad: what you need to know
Ukrainians planning to leave Greece or travel, starting February 16, 2026, can personally update their permit at the relevant asylum units. For this:
-
you must have tickets (printed or electronic);
-
no prior appointment is necessary.
Updating is recommended for those crossing the border to avoid potential difficulties when returning to Greece.
For Ukrainian citizens arriving in the country for the first time, temporary protection status will be granted according to the standard procedure. It will also be valid until March 4, 2027, and will provide the same rights as for Ukrainians already in the country.
