Epidemiological Situation in Ukraine (March 9-15, 2026)

According to Міністерство Здоров'я: During the week of March 9-15, 2026, Ukraine faced a significant burden from acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), influenza, and COVID-19. A total of 148,817 people fell ill, comprising 60,372 adults and 88,445 children. Among confirmed cases, 123 were identified as COVID-19. The severity of the outbreak is underscored by the hospitalization of 3,954 patients, including 2,177 children, due to complications.

The epidemic season officially began on September 29, 2025. From that date through March 15, 2026, a cumulative 3,188,205 people have been sick with ARVI, and 21,431 cases of COVID-19 have been registered. While the Volyn and Zhytomyr regions have exceeded the low-level epidemic threshold, Kyiv and other areas are currently at baseline levels. Notably, the incidence of ARVI for this period shows a 7.6% decrease compared to the same timeframe last year.

Prevention Recommendations

To prevent the spread of ARVI, the following measures are advised:

  • Wash hands regularly and use hand sanitizer;
  • Maintain a balanced diet;
  • Ensure rooms are well-ventilated;
  • Avoid large crowds;
  • Stay home if you experience cold symptoms.

Seek medical attention if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Muscle and joint aches;
  • Sore throat;
  • Fever of 38°C (100.4°F) or higher;
  • Cough;
  • Headache.

Given the current situation, public adherence to health authority guidelines is crucial to curb viral transmission. The overall decline in ARVI cases compared to last year may reflect the effectiveness of preventive measures, yet the localized threshold breaches highlight the need for continued vigilance and a responsive public health strategy.

As the situation with respiratory illnesses evolves, it's important to note the recent trends in flu cases. In particular, Kyiv has experienced a significant decline in flu infections, which may offer insights into the effectiveness of ongoing health measures. Understanding these developments can help inform public health strategies and individual precautions during this critical period.
