In Kherson, the number of attacks on public transport has sharply increased. Since the beginning of May, Russian troops have already fired at buses and trolleybuses eight times, and some routes in the city had to be shortened or completely stopped. This is reported by Suspilne with reference to the head of KP «Khersonkomuntransservice», Vadym Melnyk.

Russian attacks destroy Kherson's transport

According to the enterprise, at least 10 buses and 21 trolleybuses have been damaged since the beginning of the full-scale war in Kherson. Most of the strikes occurred in the last month.

The director of «Khersonkomuntransservice», Vadym Melnyk, stated that the situation has sharply deteriorated due to an increase in drone attacks.

"There have been many more drone attacks. In just the last week, three buses have been damaged," Melnyk reported.

According to him, in the first seven days of May alone, Kherson’s transport was attacked eight times.

Due to shelling, Kherson is shortening routes

As a result of the attacks, two employees of the enterprise were killed - a bus driver and an electromechanic of the contact network. Overall, since the beginning of the year, three employees have died due to Russian shelling, and eight more have been injured.

Before the full-scale invasion, the following operated in Kherson:

  1. 24 bus routes;
  2. 7 trolleybus routes.

Now the city is maintaining the operation of only 16 bus and 4 trolleybus routes.

Due to constant attacks, routes have to be shortened. The operation of transport is also affected by infrastructure damage and power supply interruptions.

On May 4, in Kherson, the movement of trolleybuses was completely suspended due to the deterioration of the security situation near the depot. According to preliminary forecasts, electric transport will not operate at least until May 10.

Kherson remains one of the most dangerous cities in Ukraine due to constant drone attacks and artillery shelling by Russian troops.

For the city residents, this means further problems with movement, delays in transport, and the shortening of routes in the frontline Kherson.

Recall that on May 2, Russian troops carried out a drone attack on a route bus in the Dnipro district of Kherson.
