According to Главком: Croatia joined the PURL initiative by allocating 14 million euros for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine. These funds will be used for the country's contribution to the PURL mechanism, aimed at supporting Ukraine during the armed conflict. The PURL initiative was launched in July 2025, and the total amount of contributions under this initiative in 2025 was 4.3 billion dollars.

The Croatian government also redistributed 235.7 million euros for major defense procurement programs in 2025. The funds allocated for the purchase of weapons will specifically be directed towards advance payments for the acquisition of:

  • wheeled self-propelled howitzers CAESAR Mk2;
  • main battle tanks Leopard 2A8.

These decisions reflect Croatia's growing support within international efforts to ensure the defense capabilities of Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelensky noted that the PURL initiative is a very valuable NATO mechanism that confirms the importance of international cooperation in security.

By allocating these funds, Croatia demonstrates its readiness to participate in joint efforts to support Ukraine during this difficult time.

The significance of the initiative

This initiative highlights not only financial support but also Croatia's political will to actively participate in European and international security efforts. Amid the ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine, such steps can be crucial for strengthening the country's defense capabilities and stability in the region. Engaging additional resources through the PURL mechanism also reflects the growing solidarity of European states in responding to the security challenges facing the continent.
