Solar Power Now Supports 300 Patients Daily at Khust Hospital
Khust Central Hospital Installs Backup Energy System
According to Міністерство Здоров'я: Khust Central Hospital has completed the installation of a comprehensive off-grid power system under the Ray of Hope program. This new setup-featuring an 80 kW rooftop solar array, 20 kW inverters, and eight storage batteries-provides an additional power source for the hospital’s main treatment building, which houses 13 departments and units. Around 300 patients pass through the facility each day.
Key Benefits of the New System
The autonomous power system ensures the hospital’s energy independence, a critical advantage given current conditions. The treatment building at Khust Central Hospital includes a wide range of units, such as:
- Emergency medical care
- Interventional cardiology
- Anesthesiology
- Operating block
- Radiology department
- Clinical diagnostic laboratory
- Surgical departments
- Traumatology department
- Neurology department
- Rehabilitation department
- Functional diagnostics office
- Pharmacy warehouse
It is worth noting that all equipment and installation work were provided at no cost to the medical facility. The Ray of Hope program is implemented with support from Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Health, and the Energy Community Secretariat. By the end of the year, solar panels are planned for installation at 60 facilities under the Ray of Hope program, as well as at 200 facilities under the HEAL project.
This initiative not only boosts energy efficiency in medical institutions but also improves patient care by ensuring a stable power supply for modern medical equipment. Deploying autonomous power systems in hospitals marks a significant step toward reliable healthcare delivery in Ukraine.
The completion of the off-grid power system at Khust Central Hospital reflects the efforts of the Ukrainian government and international partners to modernize healthcare facilities.
Given the country’s energy challenges, such investments in the energy independence of medical facilities can greatly enhance the quality of healthcare services and ensure the continuity of treatment processes. The Ray of Hope program is part of a broader strategy to support healthcare in Ukraine, underscoring the importance of integrating cutting-edge technologies into the medical field.
