Ukrainian Veteran's Pension Frozen: A Soldier's Struggle After All Funds Were Seized
Military Personnel Face Pension Payment Issues
According to ХВИЛЯ: Anton Chorny, an instructor and recruiter for the Shkval Battalion of the 59th Brigade, has highlighted severe problems with his pension payments and the failure to provide legally mandated benefits for war-disabled veterans. Chorny, who was granted a third-degree disability due to injuries sustained while defending Ukraine, reported that his entire pension was frozen due to enforcement proceedings. The blocked amount totaled approximately 40,000 hryvnias over several months.
Chorny stated that while the law permits a maximum of 50% of funds to be seized, in his case, every last penny was taken, leaving him without any financial support. He explained:
"It's completely frozen; they've blocked all my money. Even though, by law, they couldn't take more than 50%, they took everything, down to zero." - Anton Chorny
Failure to Implement Benefits for War-Disabled Veterans
In his appeal, Chorny further emphasized that the benefits legally entitled to war-disabled veterans are not being honored. 'Open the list of benefits for a war-disabled veteran, and take any point-none of it is fulfilled. Absolutely nothing is fulfilled,' he declared. He also noted that the lack of funds severely impacts his daily life:
"The state left me with nothing; to put it bluntly, I had no money to buy bread. The state can take something from us in an instant. But to get something back from the state-that seems impossible." - Anton Chorny
This case raises serious concerns about the state's fulfillment of its obligations to veterans and war-disabled individuals who have made significant sacrifices for national defense. The situation underscores a broader systemic challenge in Ukraine, where supporting veterans remains a critical issue during the ongoing conflict. It is imperative that state authorities address the problems faced by military personnel and take action to ensure the laws protecting their rights and social guarantees are enforced.
- Fulfillment of state obligations to veterans
- Provision of social guarantees for war-disabled individuals
- Impact on veteran morale during wartime
